Manipulation under Anesthesia - MUA:
A Conservative Treatment Alternative For Patients With Chronic Pain
This Advanced Manual Therapy, technique has been use for more than 70 years by osteopathic, orthopedic, and chiropractic practitioners. This treatment technique using manual manipulative therapy while the patient is under the influence of twilight anesthesia in a outpatient Surgical Center or Hospital setting.
Candidates for MUA include patient's with chronic conditions of the neck, middle or lower back pain, chronic muscle spasm and inflammation, acute or chronic muscular spasm, chronic myofasial fibrositis, nerve entrapment, disk path allergy including herniated disks, or degenerative disk disease causing chronic pain. Not all patients qualify for MUA, and therefore have to be evaluated appropriately.
The manipulation under anesthesia procedure involves 3 consecutive days of treatment. During these 3 days patient is treated with spinal manipulative therapy and MUA stretching techniques while under sedation anesthesia.
